Massage is a cure for tired and aching feet

After a demanding day, long standing or walking, feet are tense and tired. Foot massage is a quick and effective way to relax them, improve blood circulation and support the lymphatic system. It also has a relaxing effect on the whole body.

Basic massage techniques

  • Stroking – Start with gentle strokes from toes to ankle. Calms the skin and prepares muscles for deeper work.
  • Circling – With thumbs, massage the entire foot in circular motions, from heel to toes.
  • Pressure – Gently press individual points on the sole, especially in the arch and heel area.
  • Kneading – Grasp the foot with both hands and gently knead it like dough.
  • Stretching toes – Gently bend and stretch each toe.

Reflexology – an organ map on the foot

Reflexology is based on the idea that each part of the foot corresponds to a specific organ. The big toe corresponds to the head, the arch to the digestive tract, the heel to the pelvis. Massaging these points can bring relief not only to the feet but also to the whole body.

When not to massage

Massage is not recommended in acute inflammation, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, fever or skin infections. When in doubt, consult a doctor.
