You don't have to spend money in salons, you can do it yourself

Professional pedicures often cost 500 CZK or more. But you can achieve the same quality treatment at home for a fraction of the price. Just a few basic tools and some time. Here is a detailed guide.

What you will need

  • Bowl of warm water (38–40 °C)
  • Sea salt or baking soda (optional)
  • Foot file (preferably double-sided or electric)
  • Pumice stone or buffing sponge
  • Nail scissors and nail file
  • Wooden cuticle stick
  • Moisturizing foot cream (with urea or shea butter)
  • Nail polish (base, color, top coat)

Step-by-step procedure

  1. Foot bath – Fill the bowl with warm water, add sea salt (2–3 tablespoons) and a few drops of essential oil (e.g. lavender). Soak feet for 10–15 minutes. The water softens hard skin and relaxes muscles.
  2. Remove hard skin – After the bath, dry your feet. Gently remove hard skin from heels and soles with a file. File in one direction, not back and forth. Don't overdo it – only remove the top layer.
  3. Exfoliation – If you have a foot scrub, apply it and massage the entire foot in circular motions. Rinse with water.
  4. Nail care – Cut nails straight (not in a curve, to prevent ingrown nails). Use a file to shape and smooth edges. Gently push back cuticles with a wooden stick, don't cut them.
  5. Hydration – Apply a rich layer of cream to your feet and massage it in. Pay attention to heels and toes. For better effect, put on cotton socks and leave overnight.
  6. Nail polish (optional) – After the cream has dried (or the next day), apply a base coat, two layers of color and a top coat. Let it dry thoroughly.

Treat yourself to a home pedicure at least every 14 days. Your feet will thank you.
